Kennings Artistic and Literary Journal
There are presently no open calls for submissions.
General Requirements
Kennings Literary Journal welcomes submissions of fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, digital art, physical art, photography, and other media. Our editors utilize a blind submission review process to maintain the journal's creative and artistic integrity.
We are currently ONLY accepting submissions from Hanover College affiliated writers and artists. We are NOT accepting submissions from unaffiliated writers and artists at this time. Due to the nature of our publication, we reserve the right to partially close our submission pool to only Hanover College affiliated writers and artists at any time.
We accept prose, poetry, and art submissions through the months of August 1st to February 14th. Accepted pieces will appear in our print edition of Kennings, which is published once a year in the spring. While we cannot pay contributors at this time, those who are featured in the journal will receive one complimentary copy.* We aim to respond to all submissions within six months but feel free to inquire after a month.
Simultaneous submissions are acceptable if prompt notification is given of its acceptance elsewhere. Kennings claims First North American Serial Rights, with rights reverting back to the author upon publication. We ask that if the work is reprinted, you credit it as first appearing in Kennings.
If your piece is accepted into our journal, we would like to have the option to turn your piece into a podcast and put it up on our website! If your piece is selected to be turned into a podcast, you will be notified of when and where your piece will be posted, and any other information surrounding the project.
*We are unable to ship a physical copy to international contributors at this time. We will provide international contributors with an electronic copy.
**Please note that Kennings reserves the right to post your accepted piece to our website.
You can submit up to five pieces of work that corresponds with different categories as long as they follow the guidelines of each category that you are submitting to. To aid in the blind submission process, please include the TITLES of your pieces both in the submitted file and in the question field. Please DO NOT include your name within the file.
If you have any questions regarding specific submission guidelines, please contact us!
What NOT to Send Us:
Any work that is racist, homophobic, transphobic, xenophobic, or in any way is deemed as exclusionary or prejudiced will not be accepted and we will not view work from you in the future. We also do not accept overly graphic, sexual, or strong language (though, we get it, sometimes you need a swear word or two to get your point across). We also do not accept work created by AI.
Work that does not follow our guidelines will be deleted unread.
